Deep Water

Set upon relentlessly, by thoughts unbidden
Aware of things she would rather keep hidden
Taken over and controlled by her heart
Rocked by emotions and feelings of doubt
And the things kept inside erupt with a shout

Plagued and bombarded with things left unsaid
Wounds old and new that tore open and bled
Things she once knew became strangely unknown
She watched the people she love drift away
Unable to move as her friendships decayed

She drowns in her confusion at work and at home
She smiles and and laughs, but she’s sad and alone
Berating herself, day in and day out
As she glares at the endless passing of time
As if the ticking of the clock were in itself a crime
